Adare's 'eco-packaging' shortlisted for a green award
Adare has been shortlisted for a prestigious Green Award in the category of 'Best Green Packaging under £50k', in response to the groundbreaking environmental packaging solution it developed for leading soft fruit supplier, Angus Soft Fruits.
The Green Awards recognise and reward creative work that communicates the importance of corporate social responsibility, sustainable development and ethical best practice. All entrants in the 'Best Green Packaging' category had to demonstrate effective use of recyclable, biodegradable or compostable materials while incorporating exciting and engaging design.
Angus Soft Fruits had asked Adare to develop a sustainable environmental packaging solution for their soft fruit as an alternative to the traditional plastic materials being used, but which would still enable consumers to easily view the product inside.
The resulting punnet design shortlisted for the award is made from recycled non-GM pulp which is safe for direct food contact, and both recyclable and compostable. Adare also developed a printed board sleeve to fit around the punnet, which included a clear film window made from Cellulose Diacetate, to maintain good product visibility for consumers.
Made from ethically sourced forests, the film can be recycled into the cardboard waste stream along with the rest of the sleeve and punnet making the whole package biodegradable and compostable, resulting in one of the first fully recyclable soft fruit punnets available on the UK market.
Robert Whiteside, chief executive officer at Adare, comments: "We work closely with our clients to develop packaging ideas and innovations that take into account consumer demands for more environmentally friendly packaging of their products, but which maintain their brand and aesthetic appeal. Our work for Angus Soft Fruits is just one example of this and I am delighted that all the efforts of our team have been rewarded with this nomination for a Green Award."
